Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

Celebrating Difference, Creating Belonging

At River Tyne Academy, we are committed to creating a culture where every individual is valued, respected, and included. We believe that understanding and celebrating diversity helps our pupils develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to thrive in a modern and diverse society.

As part of our Personal Development curriculum, pupils are encouraged to explore their own identity, understand the experiences of others, and develop respect for people from different backgrounds, cultures, beliefs, and communities. We promote equality of opportunity and challenge prejudice, discrimination, and stereotypes wherever they occur.

Through PSHE, assemblies, enrichment activities, educational visits, and everyday interactions, pupils learn about:

  • Equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Protected characteristics as defined by the Equality Act 2010.
  • Different cultures, faiths, beliefs, and lifestyles.
  • Respectful relationships and positive communication.
  • Rights, responsibilities, and social justice.
  • Challenging discrimination and promoting fairness.
  • The importance of empathy, kindness, and understanding.

We are proud of our inclusive approach and recognise that every pupil arrives with their own unique experiences, strengths, and aspirations. Our aim is to ensure that all young people feel safe, supported, and able to be themselves within our Academy community.

The Impact

By embedding equality, diversity, and inclusion throughout Academy life, we help pupils develop confidence in who they are while fostering respect for others. Pupils learn to appreciate different perspectives, build positive relationships, and contribute to an environment where everyone feels they belong.

We want every young person to leave River Tyne Academy with the confidence to challenge prejudice, celebrate diversity, and make a positive contribution to their community and wider society. Through this work, we nurture compassionate, respectful, and responsible citizens who are prepared for life beyond school.
